When it comes to health, the marketing of ready-made foods is right at the forefront: With effective descriptions and pretty advertisements, unhealthy products are actually sold as great power foods. We reveal which foods are generally rather unhealthy and should therefore ring our alarm bells despite all the promotions. Well-sounding descriptions, effective pictures and a lot of sales pitch: Many foods are sold to us in the supermarket as supposedly healthy – but the opposite is the case. There are tons of sugar, fat or additives in many products that we consider healthy. We will tell you what it is better to avoid in your diet.
Nectar
Sounds like pure fruit: nectar makes us feel as if we were consuming pure vitamins. Of course, this is also intentional – but unfortunately, it is not the truth at all. The official name of nectar is based on the following production method: Pureed fruits are mixed with water and sugar or honey. After all, dyes and preservatives must not be used. However, there is a maximum of 50 percent real fruit content, in the worst case only 25 percent. Pay close attention to the name of the juice and the ingredients!
Breakfast Cereal
Crunchy muesli, chocolate muesli and even ready-mixed, supposedly healthy oat mueslis or fruit mueslis are usually pure sugar bombs. If you want to be on the safe side, you have to mix up a healthy breakfast yourself – from individually purchased pure oatmeal, nuts and fresh fruit.
Couscous
Couscous is very popular at the moment. Whether as a salad or a side dish, the grain has made it onto the list of trend foods. And also fought for a reputation as a healthy power food, unfortunately not with good reason. Because actually, the grains are only durum wheat, which is what noodles are made of. These are pure low-nutrient, high-calorie carbohydrates. Reach out for the healthy alternatives like quinoa, millet or buckwheat!
Protein Bars
Whether before, after, or during training-a protein bar underlines the sporty lifestyle and gives you the feeling that you have taken it one step further. After all, energy or protein bars promise new strength and a high protein content. A look at the list of ingredients is particularly worthwhile here. It is not uncommon for 20 to 30 different ingredients to appear there – including glycerine, sugar substitutes and palm fat. Such heavily processed food can only be unhealthy.
Reduced-Fat Products
Low-fat foods, especially dairy products, suggest to us that they are particularly low in calories and healthy. However, this is not correct! Because fat is a natural flavor carrier, so it ensures that it tastes good. As a result, we are more satisfied and longer full after eating. If the fat is removed artificially, a bland product remains. This in turn is balanced out with artificial additives. The result is: more sugar, unhealthy ingredients, and faster recurring hunger.
