Over the past few decades, buying and renting homes has grown a lot more accessible. Visiting open homes and reading the real estate section of the local newspaper has become a thing of the past. Real estate agents’ tasks have been made a little easier by technological advancements such as photography, which is the most effective technique for attracting potential customers. The weird listings accompany the masterpieces, as people have made some ill-advised interior design decisions. Since everything has been documented, you can check out our list of the most bizarre real estate listings.
Regardless of what they were going for, these homeowners have an undeniable fondness for purple and mirrors. From the floor to the ceiling, we’ve seen at least four different tones of the color purple. A purple ombre sink is available, and we can’t help but admire it. On the other hand, the mirrors—just let’s say that they’re a little bit overwhelming. The mirrors in this bathroom are arranged in such a way that they allow you to view yourself from every conceivable angle when you are seated on the toilet.
The More The Merrier?
One isn’t enough in some cases. Having more than one toilet in a house is understandable, but why would anyone want three in the same restroom? The numbers don’t seem to add up. Toilet paper holders strategically placed around the bathroom give the sense that this was a long-term plan.
If that’s what they were looking for, the tiles on the walls make it look more like a public restroom than a private one… We only care if three members of the same family utilised these facilities at the same time.
Minimilazing
The new fad is minimalism, and it appears that some locals have gone a little overboard with it. There appears to be little else in this enormous room other from the leather seat at the far end of the room..
For the listing, perhaps these homeowners wanted to show off their glossy hardwood flooring. All we know is that we’re praying there isn’t a television on the opposite side of the room, and we don’t know why.
Best Of Both Worlds
A kitchen, perhaps? a lounging area? A talk show set from the 1970s? Although one may never know, we do know that this room serves a variety of functions. With the kettle on one side and the sink on the other, the kitchen appears to be divided in half.
On the stage, in the centre of the room, is a small seating place for two people. To avoid having to walk far for their morning joe, these homeowners opted to position the living room right next to the kitchen so that they could easily access the eating facilities.
Caged In
For safety reasons, many individuals enclose some parts of their homes with gates. In order to keep children and tiny animals safe, they do this. We’re not sure we want to know the particular reason this bed was gated; there are a zillion possibilities.
Because of the lack of light in the image, it has an added creep factor. It will be fascinating to read what the real estate agent writes about this listing and if the new owners keep the gate on the bed.
All-Inclusive Stay
The color scheme in this bathroom is on point, but everything else is, well, questionable. At first glance, this bathroom seems like it could be mistaken for a living room.
Then you notice the toilet and the sink, and there seems to be pet food and a water bowl in between the toilet and the bidet. The open space also includes a beautiful big chair that seems like a nice place to rest but is also a bit unnecessary.
Permanent Parking Spot
People will do a lot to get out of paying for parking, but this is taking things to a whole new level. This cute car got its special place in the living room, and the only question we have is, how did it make it into the living room in the first place?
It seems like these homeowners didn’t want any oil stains on their carpet because they put down a little rug that fits perfectly under the vehicle.
Tidying Up?
Before the real estate agent in charge of this property shows it to potential buyers, they might want to call Marie Kondo for some help. The only things that are organized in this living space are the piled suitcases that seem to be blocking the path to the cupboards – which may be the reason everything else is on the bed.
This room is a total mess, and the red curtains that are poorly hung make it seem like something out of a horror film, or perhaps just a teenager’s room.
A Little Privacy Please
By the looks of it, this house is a spacious one, which makes us wonder why the homeowners didn’t put up a proper wall when building the bathroom. Unless, maybe, the whole room is one big bathroom?! The gorgeous stained glass windows and wooden doors are welcoming and warm.
For some reason, the ceiling of this room gives us the impression this is a beach house, but the faux-wood flooring gives off a completely different vibe. It would be interesting to see how the realtor pitched this one.
I Spy With My Little Eye
Talk about random. This room looks like it has everything you would ever need and more. It’s hard to miss the pig that’s occupying this attic. As if that wasn’t enough, there is also a swing in the middle of the room that seems to be used as a rack for clothes.
If you look closely enough, you’ll recognize a piano, a mini-fridge, a filing cabinet, a phone, and some small bottles. If you’re looking to get away from everything and are seeking good company, this attic is the place for you!
Pretty In Pink
A room with a theme is one that may seem easy to sell; after all, a picture is worth a thousand words. This Victorian-style room is popping with pink. It looks like the inside of a dollhouse. It wouldn’t be that bad if it weren’t for the life-sized mannequin sitting on one of the chairs.
The zebra print rug and the pink chandelier add a retro touch to this old-style living room. The designers of this masterpiece utilized every part of this room, even hanging portraits on the ceiling.
A Bit Of A Fixer-Upper
At first glance, this attic looks like it’s themed around the movie 101 Dalmations. However, at a second glance, you realize that you’re mistaken and that the room is filled with black mold!
We’re not sure who’d purchase this. After all, it looks pretty hazardous, and truth be told it probably is. By the looks of it, the realtor that took this photo was the first to step foot in that attic for a while. We hope he was fully masked and that the person that ended up purchasing this property tore it down.
Musical Chairs
The person that composed this wonderful (scary) sculpture knew exactly what he was doing. Each chair looks perfectly placed. It seems like the people moving out of this apartment wanted to leave a mark, or weren’t quite ready to leave yet.
The more you look at this room, the crazier it gets, there is even a vacuum cleaner in the back! This chair sculpture is a multipurpose one. It can also be used as a clothes rack, as seen in this photo.
I’m Melting
The picture of this property looks completely normal, that is until you look closely and realize that the ceiling fan is melted. A lot of questions come to mind when you notice the fan, the first being, since when does wood bend like that?
The room has a lot of light and seems like the perfect place for a master bedroom. We’re wondering what the realtor told potential buyers when they asked about the ceiling fan. Did they credit supernatural forces?
The House Is On Fire
One fire extinguisher isn’t enough, so why not have nine of them? Better safe than sorry. These tenants would rather be over-prepared for a house fire rather than have one creep up on them, and we get it.
It’s scary to bear the thought of a fire breaking out in your own home. The thing that gets to us is, wouldn’t it make more sense to have an extinguisher in each room rather than have them all in one corner in the same room?
Potty Break
Having to use the bathroom when there’s no bathroom around is the worst! Lucky for whoever purchased this house, there is a toilet and sink on the staircase. To lighten the mood, the homeowners placed some houseplants on the window sill.
To some, it may feel a bit silly, a toilet in the middle of the stairs, but to us, it seems like pure genius. The only downside to this whole setup is, that you don’t get any privacy.
Future In Graphic Design?
This kitchen looks like a perfectly normal one until you notice the awkward oven. This squished oven was poorly photoshopped into this listing. It’s actually quite creative if you think about it, we’re guessing the real estate agent in charge wanted potential buyers to imagine themselves cooking in this kitchen.
It would be interesting to see if there are other photoshopped surprises in the rest of the house. The kitchen looks newly renovated and fully equipped (other than the missing oven), and to be honest. It looks like a real steal!
The Parent Trap
This one’s a bit blurry, we know. But we couldn’t resist the family photo hanging on top of the purple couch. It’s hard to ignore. The mom is licking the dad’s cheek as he licks the top of the baby’s head. This surreal painting steals the focus of this living room.
There could be several backstories to this painting, and we hope these parents have a good explanation for it. Our best bet is that it’s an inside joke, a kind of “you had to be there†moment.
The Perfect Plant Pot
We’re not sure what’s worse, the floor tiling, the shower floor tiling, or the wall tiling. One thing’s for sure. These homeowners knew it was all bad. That’s probably why they decided to place a beautiful green plant in the bidet carefully.
The bright green plant pops in contrast to its colorless living space, which happens to be a bathroom. Maybe the humidity from the shower steam helps the plant grow and flourish. These homeowners might not have good taste in tiles, but they know what they’re doing when it comes to plants.
Connect The Dots
No, you’re not dreaming. Yes, the pool has been drawn into this house listing, as well as the grass under the trees. We’re not sure what angle this real estate agent was going with here, but the bright blue pool steals the show. This is a shame because this house has a beautiful view.
We’re trying to imagine what the listing would look like if the pool hadn’t been drawn in and wondering how many people contacted the real estate agent asking if the imaginary pool was included with the purchase of this property.
Two-Faced
Everyone has items they spend years collecting. Whether it’s snowglobes or stamps, people love putting their collections on display. This collection looks like it was put on display in the kitchen, which doesn’t seem like the ideal place for a mask collection.
Each mask looks like it was placed exactly where its collector imagined it to be. Some of these masks are pretty creepy – in fact, just the thought of cooking while these masks stare at you sends chills down our spine.
In The Jungle, The Mighty Jungle
It’s no secret – plants are in. Greenery adds life (literally) to almost any room. This homeowner definitely has a green thumb. We’d even go as far as saying they have a whole green hand by the looks of it.
This dining room is overflowing with flowers and plants, which might not seem like a lot. But then, when you look at the carpets, drapes chairs, and tablecloths, you realize the green is a little overwhelming. This room looks more like a flower shop than it does a dining room.
Stairway To Heaven
Imagine having to walk up a flight of steps to get to your toilet after drinking gallons of water. It sounds like a nightmare, doesn’t it? Other than the fact that this bathroom looks like it’s placed in an attic, it looks like a perfectly normal bathroom.
Then you realize actual stairs are leading to the throne. It’s as if these homeowners wanted to feel like royalty while on the toilet, which isn’t the worst thing. We’re curious to see what the real estate agent wrote to describe this listing.
Hard To Let Go
These homeowners need to have a yard sale – now! There is so much going on in this kitchen that there is barely any room on the counters for cooking. Hanging things that high up does not seem practical, but they had no other choice.
The owners of this property obviously understood they had a problem, so they added a little island in the middle that looks like it was placed there specifically for cooking. Ironic, huh?
Made For Royalty
These homeowners want to live like kings, that’s for sure. Tassels hanging from the royal blue bathtub, the fancy sink, the embroidered towels, they thought every little detail out.
The only un-royal aspect of this bathroom is the huge pipe separating the toilet and the toilet paper. To us, the most impressive part of this photo is the fact that whoever took it managed to snap the photo while staying clear of the full-sized mirror hanging on the wall.
Doll House, Literally
We all had dolls as kids. We even had houses to put them in. This room shows us what happens when your dolls outgrow their dollhouse and need an actual house. We tried counting the dolls in this picture, and it seems pretty much impossible, there are dolls of all shapes and sizes that seem perfectly placed.
The real estate agent in charge of this listing probably had to learn the name of each doll, and we’re curious to know if the people that purchased this house had to adopt them along with the property.
The Secret Garden
You can tell these homeowners didn’t know exactly what theme they were going with when they designed this bathroom. The wallpaper and matching drapes are extravagant as is, and the numerous sculptures add a whole different effect to this powder room.
The plastic sheet on the bright green floor raises questions, is it there to make sure no one ruins the floor or is it there to cover something up? To top it all off, there are green and purple embroidered towels that give this fancy bathroom an even fancier finish.
When One Door Closes, Another One Opens
Speaking of horror movies, what is going on here? There are four doors in this frame, and we wouldn’t be surprised if each one of these doors led to another door.
The two left doors don’t even seem accessible, so we’re guessing they were put on the wall for decor. It seems like a sort of optical illusion or even a prank. The only reasonable explanation for this is that there was a sale on doors, and these homeowners couldn’t resist.
The Grass Is Always Greener On The Other Side
We all know the saying, “the grass is always greener on the other side,†in this case, it’s the truth! The pool on this property is so green you might mistake it for grass and walk right into the water.
This house is perfect for a family that wants to feel like they’re in the heart of a rainforest, and it doesn’t get much greener than this. The real estate agent showing this house might want to have a gardener stop by before proceeding with this listing. With a little touchup, this garden will feel like paradise!
Prime Colors
The painting on the wall looks like Da Vinci himself painted it! We’re not sure what biblical scene was painted on the wall, but to us, it looks like the Devil and Jesus are arm wrestling.
This living room seemed like it was perfectly planned out, the yellow and red color schemes are so bright they’re practically blinding. These homeowners get 10/10 on being organized, after all the messes we’ve seen thus far, this room is a sight for sore eyes.
Cooling Down
We’ve seen numerous misplaced toilets thus far, so this one doesn’t come as much of a surprise to us. This single toilet, situated outside of what seems to be the kitchen, seems like it’s just waiting to be used.
The funny thing is, there is an air conditioner located right above it as if the person that installed knew exactly where it should be. Beside the toilet, there are random small rugs placed along the floors of this house, and we’re not sure we want to see what’s underneath them.
All In One
We’ve seen some funky setups, but this one might beat them all. In one room there’s a kitchen, a living room, a shower, and a sauna! The people occupying this living space wanted to make the most out of a small area, and they sure did!
It’s nice, to know that wherever you are in your home, there are amenities of all types at your service. Whether you want to make coffee, sit back, watch a movie or relax in the sauna, this place has got you covered!
The Animal Kingdom
It looks like Michelangelo has some competition. From the ceiling to the floor, this fully painted room is somewhat of a masterpiece. This bedroom was handpainted carefully, and the attention to detail is exquisite.
The colors are so vivid you almost feel like you’re standing in the wilderness. We’re not sure how we’d feel sleeping in a room like this, but one thing’s for sure, the result is spectacular. We hope whoever ended up purchasing this house decided against painting over this landscape.
Water Closet
It looks like these homeowners wanted to utilize every inch of space in their house. They turned this closet into a toilet, which we guess might make sense. The bathroom tiles on the floor are a nice touch, and we’re hoping that there’s a light switch in this room, cause if not, that might make things a little scary.
The awkwardly placed toilet paper seems to be the oddest thing about this arrangement as it’s placed pretty high up – maybe giants lived in this house.
Down In The Dumps
Using the toilet is the perfect time to contemplate life, and think about all we’ve done and all that is left to do. It’s a great time to catch up with old friends and see how they’re doing – you know the people you wouldn’t necessarily call.
This setup kills two birds with one stone – you get to chat with the people you’ve forgotten while doing your business. It’s a win-win situation. We wonder what the real estate agent thought of this when he put it up for sale.
Not So Mellow Yellow
It seems like people have a thing with bathrooms. We understand it’s the only place in the house that isn’t off-limits – the only place one can truly express themselves, but wow talk about bright!
We don’t really know what the theme is here, and we have our fingers crossed that the interior designer for this bathroom peaked with this specific setup and then retired…hopefully in the ’80s. We’re curious to know if each room had a color scheme or if they just decided to go crazy with the bathroom.
Rub a Dub Dub
So we’ve seen some pretty incredible utilization of space up until now, but nothing like this! We can’t know for sure, but it looks like this tub was built especially for this little nook – and we can’t say we hate it.
It seems nice taking a long bath after a hard day’s work – the only downside is, that you need to climb upstairs to get there. We wonder if the homeowners that bought this house left the tub as is or changed things up.
Underneath it All
At first glance, this looks like a room we would not want to live in – but if you try to imagine the room decluttered, it’s actually quite nice. The wallpaper is decent, and the teal ceiling is unique. We can totally picture ourselves working in this room, reading the Sunday paper, and playing with the kids during summer vacation.
It just needs a little organization, there is no doubt about that. So, if anyone has Marie Kondo’s number – please give it to these homeowners as soon as possible!
Meeting Adjourned
Some buildings are situated in cooler neighborhoods than others – like this one, for example. You can tell by the art on the left wall and the building’s whole vibe that this is a neighborhood you would want to live in.
The office chairs, on the other hand – we can’t tell if this is either an art installation or an office building getting rid of their old chairs. Either way, it has us scratching our heads with confusion. Why on earth would someone post this real estate ad without getting rid of the chairs first?
Go Think About What You Did
Okay, we’re just going to go ahead and say it – this looks like the best “time out†corner in the entire world. The couch looks comfortable, and the sun is shining in – it looks too good to be true.
Wait, say that again? It isn’t a time-out corner? Is it a living room? Well, now we have to reevaluate the whole situation. What is going on in this living room, and who would want to hang out here? We need answers!
Parasol Piazza
Who amongst us doesn’t want to lounge under a parasol? Unfortunately, these homeowners don’t seem to realize they already have a roof over their heads. Complete with outdoor table and chairs, this parasol is ready to go.
Of course, these homeowners could just be storing their outdoor furniture until the sun reappears. But then why is the parasol open? And don’t they know that opening an umbrella indoors is bad luck? Either way, we don’t think we could chill here.
Mind the Gap
Hilariously, whoever did the construction work in this home didn’t seem to notice the door, and went ahead and fitted the cupboards and countertop right across it. Seriously, this seems utterly perplexing. How could it ever happen?
While access to the door is our first concern, let’s not ignore what could be lurking in that unnerving, infuriating gap. All sorts of passing beasties could congregate in there! Perhaps this door is best left as a particularly large and inaccessible window.
Warning – Sharp Edges
You have to imagine that this house was designed by someone straight out of design school. Or, by someone full of wild ideas and too much money on their hands. Or, by someone with some really sharp power tools.
The point is, that this room is a sharp-edged visual nightmare. And let’s not forget the steps leading down to…nowhere? And the steps leading up to… nowhere? We guess this room would be great for cats. Maybe a cat designed it?
Home Wanted
These fridges look like they’ve really gotten into it. They’ve fought and they’ve screamed, and now they can’t even look at each other.
Just kidding, clearly whoever decorated this red room left their two very large fridge-freezers randomly strewn across the room. They even thought it was reasonable to have them photographed by a real estate agent. Can you offer a loving home to these two fridges? Sponsor these beautiful appliances so they can move on with their lives.
Bicycle Parking
Overall, this isn’t so bad. So the walls are decrepit and there are obvious signs of water damage. But hey, they still got curtains! Plus, you also get a bicycle and a place to park it.
We think it’s a good deal. While it does need a little clean-up, we are sure you can turn this place into a temporary home. For how long exactly? We wouldn’t even want to stay a single night in a place like this.
Let Me Just Drag Him Out
We have no way of glossing over it. This simply looks bad, really bad. It seems like someone was, how should we put it mildly, dragged out of the room before showing it to potational clients.
In other words, this looks like a crime scene. That’s it we said it out loud. We seriously hope nothing of that sort happened there. But apart from that, it does look like a nice place. Doesn’t it?
Under Permanent Renovations
It’s not uncommon to show clients a house that is still going through renovations. They still get a chance to see what it generally looks like, and all they need to do is imagine what the end result will look like.
We believe, however, that in this case, they won’t get a chance to see the end of it. In fact, we wouldn’t bother with renovating it at all. Instead, they should just tear it down and rebuilt it.
A Room with a View
We are not entirely certain what this room was used for. It’s just weirdly designed. This wasn’t a kitchen since there is no sink, despite the kitchen-like cupboards. Also, what’s the deal with the armchair?
And, why is it facing the empty cupboards? This easily gets into our “worst home designs of the century.†On the other hand, they should get points for the view from the window. As it seems, it opens to a garden, which is nice.
Saw’s Original Set
For those of you who watched the famous horror movie franchise Saw, this would seem familiar. We are not saying that it looks exactly like the basements depicted in the movies, but it does bear a creepy resemblance to the general murderous atmosphere shown in the movies.
How can you even offer someone to stay in a place like that, not to mention rent it? This just gives us the creeps!
An Urban Oasis
We have a feeling that these two mattresses that conveniently look like they just stopped to drink some water from a pond-turned-pool on their way to complete their quest are actually two heroes that were bewitched by the Wicked Witch of the North.
Of course, there is a good chance that we are exaggerating here, but you do have to admit that there is something that is not quite right about this picture.
Don’t Move the Fridge
This little makeshift porch could use some support. So, why not drag the fridge from the kitchen and use it as a pillar? Sounds about right, no? Well, we have our doubts about that.
They could have used pretty much anything else apart from a random thing like a fridge. We guess it’s cheaper than actually buying timber or metal and fashioning something more reliable out of that. It seems to hold, though.
Diablo: Resurrected
For those of you who played any of the Diablo video game series, this would look familiar. It just looks like a random room from one of the games. This pentagram on the floor leaves little room for imagination as to what this room was used for.
Add the fact that it has, apparently, no windows and the only light probably came from the fireplace, and get something very diabolic.
Feeding Time
At first glance, there seems to be nothing wrong with this picture, if you ignore the fact that there is an old dude hiding behind the door that opens into a creepy-looking collection of potted plants.
In fact, it reminds us of the 1986 movie Little Shop of Horrors. When you come to think of it, that plant does look like a venus trap. We bet the insurance doesn’t cover third-party damages.
Beauty Sleep
This room looks like it has been bombed, just look at this massive hole in the ceiling. It definitely looks like someone dropped a 1000-pound bomb there. The more we look at it, the more we think that it looks like an abandoned boarding school and not a proper bedroom.
How can you even offer someone to live here? Besides, if this place is actually abandoned, we bet that ghosts roam its empty corridors at night.
Hairline Cracks
This room basically looks like it was abandoned in a hurry. We don’t know the story behind it, but there’s something eerie about this picture. Also, the hairline cracks in the wall definitely add to the creepy atmosphere.
Don’t let the nice view from the window fool you. There’s something about this place that should make you think twice before renting it. In case you do choose to live there, we recommend you use a disinfect.
Dracula’s Basement
Some people prefer renting a basement because it’s usually cheaper than a standard apartment. However, this looks like a basement in Romania. Also, in case you didn’t notice, there’s another tenant living there already.
Looks like you’ll have to share the place with this unfriendly bat. Oh, and one more thing — there are no windows because the last tenant was extremely sensitive to light if you get what we mean.
I Think, Therefore I Am
There’s something very poetic about this picture, perhaps poetic is not the right word, but maybe “abstract.†It pretty much sums up the human experience: pondering what it’s for anyway.
If this wasn’t an actual room we would have thought that this is some sort of an art exhibit. Actually, we might just go with that and make millions. People would love it! Oh yeah, we wouldn’t recommend you rent it. It’s just too abstract for our tastes.
Nauseating Pattern
Certain visual patterns may cause vertigo and nausea, so the viewer’s discretion is advised. Just look at this horror! Who would want to live in a place like that? It’s definitely our worst nightmare when it comes to real estate.
It looks like our grandmother’s dream room. Why would anyone want to go for such an ugly pattern? The only good thing about this place is the view from the window.
Don’t Use the Bathroom
Someone clearly forgot to clean after themselves, and even left some graffiti. But, other than that, this place looks decent. The tiles are mostly intact and the floor is, well, needs a little tidying up.
Also, if you didn’t look up, you wouldn’t notice that the ceiling is coming apart. The plumbing, however, seems to work just fine. Let’s put aside for a moment the fact that this looks like an abandoned church.
Nice and Fresh
We can’t decide if this whole setup is genius or just plain dumb. On the one hand, it seems pretty smart to hang the washing machine on the wall, so it doesn’t take up extra space in what seems like a tiny room. On the other hand, it looks absolutely dangerous.
What if something happens and the machine falls? What if you were using the toilet when that happens? We’re hoping the people that bought this house took down the machine and placed it somewhere safer. For their sake, not ours.
Shine Bright
Having a lot of light in the shower is important, it can help point out the hard-to-get-to places and make sure you scrub just like your mom taught you. These homeowners took that idea a little too far when they installed a chandelier inside the bathtub.
Other than the fact that it looks unsafe on so many levels, it just doesn’t seem like a comfortable way to shower. By the looks of it, this bathroom has a high ceiling, and we can’t help but wonder what the thought process behind this placement was.
Painting Like Jackson Pollock
When you’re moving out of an old house, you don’t really care what it looks like, right? It’s the new homeowner’s problem. These tenants should have thought of that before they went crazy with their abstract art masterpiece because this was the photo they put up on the real estate sites.
They cleaned up nicely – but then totally ruined that by splashing white and blue paint all over the house! We hope whoever moved in likes art because this is one masterpiece.
Never Running Out
The worst feeling in the world is going to the toilet and then realizing you’re out of toilet paper. We’re guessing this family has been there one-too-many times, so instead of yelling to each other to bring them an extra roll of TP, they installed another two, roll holders.
Hands down genius, we aren’t lying when we say we would buy this house just for this bathroom. Or maybe take the cheaper route, and install another two toilet-paper holders in our bathrooms. Thanks for the inspiration!
Pop Art
We can tell Andy Warhol inspired this homeowner. We only found a picture of this hallway, but we’re guessing the rest of the house is as colorful as the entrance.
The bright colors and contrast of the black and white portraits make it feel like you’ve walked into a post-modern art museum. Marilyn Monroe seems to be somewhat of a muse in this house, and the chandelier’s bright colors top off this unique hall. We’re not going to lie. We’re digging it.
